Enterprise Linux White Papers:

Edge serving with Sistina Global File System-based storage clusters

Date Published:
01 JUL 2002
About the White Paper:
At the boundary between the external Internet (or an internal Intranet) and an internal data center operation, servers implementing a variety of network services are typically deployed. These are called "edge" servers, which provide client access to internal server data via Web, e-mail, file or database protocols, or some combination of these protocols. However, edge server farms are complex to manage and difficult to scale. This white paper describes the problems that often arise from large-scale edge server farm approaches and how shared storage clusters can solve their scalability and management complexity problems.
