Description:
Vancouver-based development provider ActiveState yesterday released Komodo 3.0, the newest version of its professional integrated development environment (IDE) for dynamic languages such as Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl and XSLT. The company also released a new white paper that focuses on the strengths of dynamic languages.
Komodo 3.0 builds on the foundation of previous releases, adding deep object and code browsing, enhanced multi-user support, and powerful automation (including macros and triggers). Other new features include an interactive shell and a new debugging system based on DBGP (an
open debugger protocol standard).
Komodo 3.0 Pro, for professional programmers, offers launch special pricing of $245 until August 30, 2004 (regular price: $295). Komodo 3.0 Personal, for educational or non-commercial use, is $29.50.
The white paper, "Dynamic Languages: Ready for the Next Challenges, By Design," updates Tcl creator John Ousterhout's 1998 piece, "Scripting: Higher-Level Programming for the 21st Century." The new paper was written by David Ascher, ActiveState's Chief Technologist.
ActiveState will be at LinuxWorld in San Francisco on Aug. 2nd-5th at booth 1244.
