Pogo Linux, Inc., a Linux server vendor, announced Wednesday the planned release of the PerformanceWare 4464, a new four-processor server based on AMD's Opteron processor. The company will also demonstrate PogoRemote, a server management tool exclusive to Pogo Linux storage systems, as well as the immediate availability of a two-processor Opteron server.
Also launched at LinuxWorld, PogoRemote, a server management tool that gives network administrators the freedom to satellite manage Pogo Linux storage systems from any location to maximize responsiveness and increase data availability. Using the application on a client system, users can gain hardware-level access to the server regardless of the state of the operating system to monitor the system's health and perform a variety of administrative tasks.
Pogo Linux will also unveil a high-performance rackmount server called the PerformanceWare 1464. The two-processor server has room for four SCSI drives and uses AMD's Opteron processor. With up to 12GB of memory, the system will start at just under $2,500 and is available immediately.
The PerformanceWare 4464, the price of which was not disclosed, is one of three products the company unveiled at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in New York this week. The four-way system is a 4U server made up of four AMD Opteron 800 series processors. While still in development, the system demonstrates the company's commitment to 64-bit computing in Linux.
