Microsoft and StarNet offer new Unix products
Source: SearchOpenSource.com
Date: 21 Jan 2004

Description:

Microsoft is displaying the new 3.5 version of Windows Services for UNIX at Linuxworld. The new release was introduced on Jan. 15.

Also, StarNet, an MS partner, announced Desktop-X, a new low-cost SFU utility that enables X Windows applications ported with SFU's Interix technology to be displayed on the Windows desktop.

While any X server can be used for the dispay interface, most commercial X servers are in the $300-$600 range. That is out of range for organizations that want to move a few legacy X Windows applications from their UNIX server to Windows desktops or a Windows Terminal Server. With the new SFU 3.5 available at no cost and Desktop-X at $99 or below, re-hosting X Windows applications on Windows becomes a very affordable solution.
