Description:
BMC Software's Server Management for Linux Solution combines its PATROL and MAINVIEW management solutions and promises to give customers the ability to manage their Linux servers in distributed- or mainframe-based computing environments.
BMC Server Management for Linux is designed to address key Linux challenges by automatically monitoring and managing systems and related resources. These monitoring functions promise to save time, reduce costs and maximize the performance of the Linux operating system. BMC notes that the solution ensures server performance and availability across the enterprise for the Linux operating system and increases availability by reducing unplanned downtime by setting thresholds for memory, CPU usage, disks, file systems, logs, processes, security and swap file utilization. The user can then establish recovery actions for threshold attainment, and thus anticipate problems before the Linux operating system is impacted.
BMC MAINVIEW for Linux Servers was recently updated with performance and diagnostic enhancements that deliver support for new Linux distributions including Red Hat Advanced Server and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8. It also allows users to better manage their mainframe environment by mapping Linux disks to VM mini disks which allows them to view, copy and delete files/directories and modify attributes as well as delivering more Action Commands against managed systems. Additionally, it now correlates resource and performance metrics in a z/VM ? Linux environment that enables customers to understand the relationship between Linux and z/VM resources. These enhancements support BMC Software?s Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, which enables customers to change the way they do business - to begin managing IT from a business perspective. It allows customers to understand and predict the impact of technology changes on the business, and conversely, understand how changes in the business impact the IT infrastructure.
