MEPIS

Show me everything on Noncommercial Linux distributions

DEFINITION - MEPIS (pronounced MEHP-us) is a Linux distribution that includes the K Desktop Environment (KDE) based on the Trolltech Qt toolkit; it also includes the ClamAV anti-virus program. MEPIS was originally released in 2003 by Warren Woodford, who built it to satisfy his own desire for a simple, user-friendly platform that incorporated the functions he found most useful. MEPIS was developed based on Debian, another Linux distribution, and continues to include many of the features of that distribution.

MEPIS can be installed on a hard drive, but it can also be operated directly from a CD (live CD mode). For this reason, a MEPIS CD can be used as a boot disk in the event of a hard drive crash or other malfunction. MEPIS has gone through revisions since its original release. Currently there are versions for various applications including entry level, general home and business, technology enthusiasts, traveling personnel, and security professionals. There is also a server version.
