Scalix 9.0 supports Outlook '03, Ximian

Fresh off the announcement of several government customer wins at the start of the month, Linux-based messaging vendor Scalix Corp., of San Mateo, Calif., today released Scalix 9.0, the next version of its e-mail and calendaring platform.

Scalix 9.0 includes new support for Outlook 2003, Ximian Evolution and Scalix Web Access, a Web-based e-mail version of the desktop client that supports Internet Explorer and Mozilla Web browsers. Scalix is also introducing today a new Web services-based administration platform that features single sign-on that integrates with an enterprise's existing security and directory infrastructure.

Scalix supports Linux, Unix, Windows and Mac desktops and workstations.

Scalix Web Access, meanwhile, supports contact management and public folders, in addition to traditional e-mail and calendaring capabilities. Scalix 9.0, meanwhile, can be managed remotely via an XML and SOAP-based interface. Users, groups and permissions can be managed via a browser.

Scalix 9.0 also integrates with third-party archiving software to ensure regulatory compliance. It also integrates with Active Directory and eliminates the expense of managing corporate and e-mail directories separately.

Scalix 9.0 also supports SuSE Linux, in addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

It is available at $60 per user.
