Mandrake supports AMD64 platform

Linux distributor Mandrakesoft announced this week its support for the AMD64 platform. Mandrakelinux Official 10.0 for AMD64 supports the Athlon64 and Opteron processors and promises a 20% average performance gain over 32-bit versions.
With its support for AMD64, Mandrakelinux now has high-end server capabilities and development tools, the company said.
The software is available for $129 (USD).
More Linux support in latest CA antivirus software
Computer Associates International, Inc. recently announced the latest version of its eTrust antivirus software. New features include a management console for Linux, Unix, Windows, NetWare and Mac systems, enhanced support for Linux and zSeries Linux and integration with eTrust Security Command Center, CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup and CA Unicenter.
Pricing starts at $40 per user and that includes daily signature updates and 24x7 technical support for one year.
Virtualization package runs on SuSE
Burlington Coat Factory recently announced that it has purchased server virtualization software and switches from Topspin Communications for its on-demand data center. The department store retail chain will now be able to create virtual servers on-demand using industry standard servers and storage software. New applications will be deployed quicker, Oracle application performance will improve and response times to server or network failures will improve, the companies said.
Burlington is deploying the solution on top of diskless IBM xSeries x345 servers running SuSE Linux. The application/OS images and application data is centrally stored in Hitachi storage.
Free Linux support a click away
StarNet Communications Corp., announced the availability of a free technical support service for the Linux community related to server and workstation installation and configuration and system administration.
StarNet sells Windows-to-Unix/Linux connectivity software.
StarNet Linux Support covers virtually all Linux distributions including Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, Mandrake, Caldera, TurboLinux, Slackware, Knoppix and Gentoo.
Users will visit the StarNet Linux Support site and submit questions that will be answered by the company's staff.
