The Training Camp, education centers that offer IT certifications, has been designated an LPI-US approved training partner by the Linux Professional Institute.
LPI offers vendor-neutral Linux certifications for IT professionals and enthusiasts.
LATP centers must use third-party approved training materials, LP certified instructors and follow the LPI Training and Academic Code of Ethics.
LPI-US is managed by the Open Source Software Institute and manages the LPI certification in the United States including exam labs, conference and marketing information. The Training Camp offers certification for Linux, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, CompTIA, (ISC)2 and Sun.
SOT donates code financial administration project
Pupesoft.com, a community effort to create open financial administration software from free software, announced that it has recently received a contribution of 50,000 lines of source code from SOT, a service provider specializing in Linux and open source.
Pupesoft.com is financial software that combines the PHP scripting language and a modern database and focuses on automating financial administration.
SOT donated the code from its own financial administration software and said it would offer consulting and other services to Pupesoft users. The SOT code includes support for multiple geographical locations and stores, advanced product configuration, real-time project tracking and reporting, and support for multiple languages and currencies.
Pupesoft.com was created on a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) platform.
Lindows releases enterprise desktop assessment kit
Lindows Inc. recently released its new Desktop Linux Enterprise Assessment Kit. The software enables enterprises to evaluate migrations to a Linux desktop. The kit, on DVD, contains a built-in diagnostic tool that determines Linux hardware compatibility. It also enables the user to assess filetype compatibility with Microsoft Office file formats, learn about the benefits of digital software delivery and remote software updates, and become familiar with the LindowsOS interface.
The kit also includes LindowsOS 4.5, Lindows OS Laptop Edition, LindowsDeveloper Edition, LindowsLive!, CNR Express, diagnostic tools and LindowsOS 4.0, 3.0 and SPX.
It is available for $149.
JBoss hires new CFO
JBoss Inc, developer of the open source Java application server, announced it has hired Cary Smith as its now chief financial officer.
Smith's hiring came on the heels of an announcement of a $10 million venture investment in JBoss.
Smith is a former auditor, controller, accountant, merger and acquisition specialist.
"From the onset, JBoss has been extremely committed to maintaining profitability, fiscal discipline and manageable growth. With the success of our recent bid for venture financing, we are more focused than ever on a long-term financial strategy," said CEO Marc Fleury in a statement. "Cary's impressive financial management career spans all areas important to the financial health of any company, and we look to him to play a key role as JBoss continues to expand as a professional open source company."
