Julie Hanna Farris is the founder of Scalix Corporation, a provider of Linux-based enterprise messaging systems. A 15-year veteran and pioneer in the messaging and collaboration market, Julie founded Scalix during her tenure as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Mayfield. Among her credits are successful innovations in the areas of electronic mail/messaging, web/telephony unified communications, eBusiness portals, and collaborative computing.
Prior to Scalix, Julie was a founding executive of three innovative and successful start-ups. Most recently, she was an executive for these companies: onebox.com, the leading provider of unified messaging, acquired by Openwave for $850M in March 2000; 2Bridge, where she pioneered and named the Enterprise Portal category; and Portola Communications, which was acquired by Netscape and created the technology that is now the SunONE Mail platform. And, as a member of the original team at Healtheon (WebMD), Julie managed the design and development of the industry's first secure Web-based e-mail platform.
Julie began her career as technical director at BellSouth Telecommunications, where she pioneered the design and deployment of one of the world's largest and most advanced enterprise scale networks for distributed messaging and groupware. |
