Is there support for non-enterprise Red Hat Linux? |

I always thought open source allowed for the net to compensate for the actions of a single entity such as Red Hat. Do you know of any third party (like Novell/Suse, HP, IBM, Linuxcare) who wants to jump in and support Red Hat Linux after Red Hat stops? Is there a move among Red Hat users to build their own support infrastructure for these orphaned products? If not, why not?

Red Hat moved the engineering for Red Hat Linux to the community project called The Fedora Project. As its Website explains, The Fedora Project is a Red Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. In addition to supporting Red Hat Linux, The Fedora Project is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into commercial Red Hat products. By using this more open process, Red Hat hopes to provide an operating system that uses free software development practices and is more appealing to the open source community. As with other open source projects, support will be provided by the open community.
