QUESTION POSED ON: 12 August 2008
During the installation of OSSEC on my PC, the installation wizard asks for "ossec server IP" and "authentication key". Since I want to work on OSSEC for my own computer and not on the server side, what should I do? I have windows XP SP 2 installed on my PC. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, the Windows functionality available for OSSEC only runs in "agent" mode and requires a server. You cannot yet run OSSEC in stand-alone mode on a Windows host. You can see some documentation on this at:

http://www.ossec.net/main/manual/#windows.

As far as I am aware, there are currently no stand-alone open source HIDS products that run on Windows.
