Do you think Microsoft is using the threat of patent-infringement suits to rope commercial Linux companies into more Novell-type deals? What do you think this means to the future of commercial Linux support?

EXPERT RESPONSE

Again, Microsoft maintains that they are not threatening lawsuits; they want to be paid licensing fees for access to intellectual property that they believe is covered by patents they hold. There is no doubt that they want to be paid these licensing fees by both Linux distributors, as well as end users.
