If you ask 100 people familiar with both, probably you'll get 50 people that swear by GCC and the other fifty that hate it and would only use the native compiler. Certainly you'll get better support from IBM by using their compiler. On the other hand, there are more resources available on the net to help you when using GCC. In my mind, the primary advantage is probably the price: You have to pay for your AIX compiler; GCC is free. Are you more the type to work things through on your own, or do you like some vendor hand-holding? I think the way you answer this question should determine your decision.
