Q

Security checklists and audits

Security expert James Turnbull provides a link for a security checklist when performing an audit.

It has been recommended to me to have a security audit performed on a Linux server hosted by an outside hosting company. Can you please provide me with a checklist of things to look for? Is it worth hiring an outside company to perform this security audit for me? If so, do you have any recommendations?

If you aren't aware of what to look for then I recommend getting an outside party to review the server. I can't recommend any companies since I am not based in the U.S., but I would suggest finding someone who is prepared to provide two or three professional references for similar recent activities. For a checklist you can see the answer to this question.
