Does OpenOffice password cracker seriously compromise the security of my protected OpenOffice documents? Is there a way to further protect my documents?

To keep this in context, I understand that you can open "protected" Calc spreadsheets with no trouble, just by opening them in OpenOffice.org. I'm not a security expert, so I can't recommend an alternative. However, it's my opinion that the security included in any office suite is not strong enough if you care about security.
