How can I fix an unknown user error when configuring my Samba server?

I've got this problem in configuring my Samba server to be seen in the network neighborhood of Windows 95/98 OS. It always asks me to supply a Username and password for the resources system.

This dialog box always comes when I try to log on my Samba system over the network:

Incorrect password or unknown user for
system.

    Requires Free Membership to View

    Login



Connect As.........
password............

I am using Linux 7.2 with Samba 3.0.1. The workstations are running on Windows95/98/2000, and the server on XP.
Sounds like a sync issue. Can you check to see if your Linux password sync is set to yes? If not, set it, and then restart the daemon process.
