Q

Free business guidance under GNU-FDL

Open source software and apps expert Bernard Golden recommends looking at the open source maturity model for ideas on open source software documentation.

We are using the open source software model to create free business guidance, in this case, for very small businesses under the GNU-FDL. What, in your opinion, is the current state of open source documentation, methodologies and guidance?

think the effort sounds very interesting. Certainly, open source needs a fuller set of surrounding capabilities as it makes its way into mainstream IT organizations. I suggest you take a look at the Open Source Maturity Model (OSMM), which I developed to help organizations assess open source products. It has a section on open source documentation. You can download a whitepaper on the OSMM here.
