Development work on Linux-based sniffers

I want to start work on Linux-based network sniffer development. Can I get the amateur source code of any Linux-based sniffer? It will help me a lot.

There are waaay too many sniffers for Linux already. Just study the source code for "tcpdump," "ethereal," "dsniff" and scores of others.
